Social Welfare degree at Chungnam National University

Wednesday, March 4th, 2009

The Department of Social Welfare aims to produce professionals who understand social welfare (including the social phenomena in relation to social welfare, social welfare systems, and social welfare intervention methods) and who are able to put the knowledge into practice. The present demand for social welfare workers and the national goal of a welfare state are attributable to the upheaval in the socio-economic structure, class inequality, and the economic insecurity that has resulted from our countrys rapid growth. The educational objectives and programs of the department reflect the philosophy of the social welfare profession which emphasizes social responsibility for preventing and solving social problems, and which manifests high respect for individuals and appreciation of the individuals capacity for growth and change. The educational program is based on the premise that through combining classroom learning and field practice internship, each student acquires the knowledge and values basic to the social welfare profession. Contemporary Korean society needs to increase the number of social welfare agencies and professional personnel. Accordingly, social demand for social welfare professionals is growing.

Career Opportunities

In accordance with social welfare work law, students graduate as certified social workers. Graduates from the department are employed in the public welfare sector and in social welfare voluntary agencies.
