Associate Degrees

Cloud County Community College offers a wide variety of courses towards completion of transfer and career degrees in four areas: Associate of Arts, Associate of Science, Associate of Applied Science and Associate of General Studies.


Associate of General Studies (AGS)

The Associate of General Studies degree is designed to provide students with the opportunity to develop foundational knowledge, skills, and attitudes towards lifelong learning. This degree will meet transfer requirements only to selected colleges and universities. Developmental courses cannot be used to fulfill degree requirements. The AGS degree will be awarded upon successful completion of a program of study not less than sixty-two (62) credit hours including the following general education hours: Course Credits Course Credits

For all degree programs, students should seek degree program evaluation, analysis, and advice from both Cloud County Community College and the institution to which they plan to transfer.

Certificates

Cloud County Community College provides programs of instruction consisting of college credit courses that are designed to prepare students for entry into an occupation or a closely related cluster of occupations. A certificate is awarded upon satisfactory completion of a planned program, including the demonstration or the attainment of predetermined and specified performance requirements. The courses shall be based in theory and of sufficient complexity and rigor to award college credit. Most certificate programs are designed to allow a duly enrolled full-time student to complete the program within one school year.

Labor Studies degree at City College Of San Francisco

Degree Curriculum
The curriculum in Labor Studies is a two-year program designed to give students a sound foundation in the theory and practice of labor and industrial relations. This course of study will provide members of San Francisco labor unions and other interested individuals with a comprehensive introduction to the role and contributions of organized labor to American society; a thorough grounding in the rights of employees on the job; and a specialized training in the skills necessary to be an effective practitioner in the field of labor and industrial relations.

Students who satisfy the requirements for graduation from the College and complete the required Labor Studies courses with the average grade of C (2.00 grade-point average) or higher receive the degree of Associate in Arts and the Award of Achievement in Labor Studies.

Course of Study

The course of study includes instruction in labor history; labor and politics; labor law; labor economics; labor relations and collective bargaining; pension, health and welfare issues; grievance handling and arbitration; women’s employment issues; health and safety in the workplace; employment discrimination; steward training; contemporary labor issues; and communications for labor leaders. Electives have been recommended to strengthen students’ knowledge and skills in selected areas, to guide students in selecting courses to fulfill the requirements for graduation from the College, and to aid students considering further education at a branch of the California State University and Colleges or the University of California.

The Faculty

The faculty consists of labor scholars and labor practitioners with experience working for San Francisco unions and governmental agencies.

Employment

Those who complete the Associate of Arts curriculum satisfactorily are qualified for employment with labor organizations and governmental agencies. Labor Studies graduates hold staff positions with unions as negotiators, field representatives, organizers, and also work in union research, education, and legislative departments. Local, state, and federal agencies also employ labor relations graduates.

The School of Professional and Continuing Studies (SPCS) offers the Associate of Arts degree for busy adults. It recognizes the full range of their abilities and uses a flexible format to allow them to complete the degree program. The student graduates with a foundation in the liberal arts and an understanding of other areas that shape our society and communities. A student must complete a minimum of 66 credits with distribution in the areas indicated.
