Requirements for Admission to Teacher Education

Teacher Education candidates must not have any felony convictions nor be on disciplinary probation at the university.

##Course requirements for all 3 options include:
Must have 57 hours completed
EN140 completed with a grade of “C” or above
Block I completed with a written recommendation

(SE222 or ED250 for secondary) (students admitted prior to Fall 07)
(SE200 & SE202) or ED250 for secondary) (students admitted Fall 07 or later)

*An ACT before 10/1/1989 permits a minimum score of 20. A score of 265 or higher on all sections of the C-BASE will permit any ACT/SAT score to be accepted. Contact an advisor for required SAT scores. Any previous four-year degree from an accredited institution will waive the ACT.

The C-BASE tests include English, Math, Science, Social Studies and Writing. All sections must be passed within two years of the semester in which the student passed any section or all previously passed sections are void. If C-BASE is taken at a testing site other than Southeast, code it to be sent to Southeast (00250). Any previous four-year degree from an accredited institution will waive the C-BASE.

Careers and Further Study

Careers in almost any field are open to geographers. Our graduates have been appointed to posts in administration, finance, management, the armed forces, computing, industry, international aid, development and environmental agencies, and education. Almost all of our graduates are in employment within a few months of graduating, or progress to postgraduate study. The typical level of employment at the census, six months after graduation, is 96%.
Selection

Conditional offers are made following UCAS applications. Those offered a place are invited to attend one of our Departmental Open Days. We welcome applications from mature students.

Students with qualifications other than A Levels seeking admission will be considered on an individual basis, and may be invited for interview.

Description

Social Science is one of the broad areas of excellence in teaching and research pursued by Lincoln University. The Bachelor of Social Science with Honours encourages students who have enquiring minds and who want to more about the society and culture around them, to join their teachers in exploring the interconnections between social sciences.

How to qualify

Admission to B.Soc.Sc.(Hons) is by application, and is open to students who have completed the B.Soc.Sc., or another contextually relevant Lincoln University undergraduate degree or an equivalent degree from another university.

SOCI 639 Social Theory
SOCI 640 New Zealand Society
one of:
SOCI 601 Social Science Research Methods (Quantitative)
or
SOCI 602 Social Science Research Methods (Quantitative)
Together with twenty credits chosen from any of the Master’s Degree Courses offered at Lincoln University or those offered at an equivalent level at the University of Canterbury, to form a coherent course of study.
Plus: A dissertation (40 credits at 600 level)
